The Application
  • Send your completed and signed application (parent signature is required if applicant is under 18 years of age at time of application) to the Office of Admissions along with your application fee. Applications will be returned unless accompanied by an application fee and all questions answered. The fee is nonrefundable and is not applicable to any future bill.

    Application Fee Schedule (the application fee must be paid by check or money order in U.S. dollars, payable to the North Carolina School of the Arts):

           U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents - $60

           Non-Residents and International Students - $110

  • If applying to more than one school, you must complete an additional application for each school and pay an additional application fee.
  • The North Carolina School of the Arts does not offer a double major program nor does it offer a joint program with any other institution. If you are accepted into more than one program, you will have to choose one program of study.
  • Applicants under the age of 18 years must have the signature of a parent or guardian.
  • All questions on the application must be answered and all answers should be typed or clearly printed.
  • A Social Security number is required of all applicants who apply for financial aid or the Hope Tax Credit.
  • Send a 2x2 photograph; it is not required, but requested of all candidates for identification purposes. (Drama and dance have specific requirements. Please see the departmental requirements.)
  • Include a résumé (see departmental requirements)
The Audition and/or Interview
  • All applicants must audition and/or interview with the arts faculty. Admission is based upon artistic and academic achievement and potential.
  • You must select an audition date and city from the audition schedule listed in the Admissions by School section of this page (buttons on the left).
  • You will be notified in writing of the audition/interview date. No auditions or interviews will be scheduled over the telephone or by email.
  • Auditions and/or interviews are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. Every effort is made to accommodate your first choice, however the Office of Admissions cannot guarantee your selection.
  • Decisions concerning admission are made after applicants have auditioned and/or interviewed and submitted an application and application fee.
  • The Admission Review Committee (Admissions, Undergraduate Academic Programs/Secondary Programs and Student Life) must review applicants recommended by the faculty for acceptance.
  • Notification of admission decision will come from the Office of Admissions and will be in writing. No decisions will be given over the phone or by email.
  • Exception: in the case of applicants to the School of Drama, the School of Filmmaking, and Visual Arts. Applicants to these programs will be notified after all auditions and interviews have been fully conducted.
  • Copy your application and records for your personal file and reference.
