D&P alumni have earned positions in virtually every major performing arts organization in the nation as well as national and international touring productions, Broadway and off-Broadway shows, themed entertainment venues, and television and film production, as well as distinguished careers outside of the arts. Their names are not often familiar to audiences, but their work is a significant presence in the fabric of American arts, entertainment and business.

Michael Clark '93 is the projection
designer for "Jersey Boys" at August
Wilson Theatre on Broadway, which
won the Tony Award for Best Musical.

Joe Doran '00 is founder and artistic
producer of Equilateral Theatre
Company, a nonprofit company which
put on its first production,
"Illuminate," March 22-25 at
Mulberry Street Theater in New York
City. Joe is also lighting supervisor
for Martha Graham Dance Company
and H.T. Chen & Dancers, production
manager for Gabrielle Lansner & Co.,
technical director and stage manager
for Sean Curran Company, and
teaching artist in lighting design for
Roundabout Theatre Company. Other
companies include Jennifer
Muller/The Works, Gina Gibney Dance,
and Donna Uchizono Company. Other
recent N.Y. credits include “River
Deep, a Tribute to Tina Turner” at The
Peter J. Sharp Theater, and “Art Song
Dance” at The Joyce Theater. A
native of the Richmond area, Joe still
lights area shows whenever he can.
He was the lighting designer for Harry
Chapin's "Cotton Patch Gospel,"
March 10 - May 27 at Swift Creek Mill
Theatre in his hometown of Colonial
Heights, Va. This summer, Doran will
stage manage and light "Cats" at
SPARC (the School of the Performing
Arts in the Richmond Community).

Nelson Downend, Jr. '98 is an
associate with architectural lighting
company Domingo Gonzales
Associates in New York City, where he
has worked on such projects as the
Washington Square Arch, Jamaica
Station in Queens, and Stillwell
Avenue Station in Coney Island.
Nelson also works independently on
and performs in the band

Robert Eastman-Mullins '05 is an
assistant professor of design at
Florida International University in
Miami. He designed the scenery for
the school's production of "Tartuffe"
in January, and will design sets,
lighting, and costumes for four
productions next season.

Tony Fanning '86 was nominated in
the Set Design category of the Beverly
Hills/Hollywood NAACP Theatre
Awards, for "A Naked Girl on the
Appian Way." He was the production
designer on the upcoming NANCY
DREW film, assisted by set designer
C. Scott Baker '92. Tony was also art
director on MUNICH and LEMONY
SNICKET'S A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE
EVENTS.

Thomas Ford '94 spent a month in
Japan earlier this year, working on a
production of "The Who's Tommy" at
Tokyo Kosei Nenkin Kaikan Hall.

Christina Grant '04 is a free-lance
hair and wig stylist and makeup artist
in New York, where her current and
recent credits include "The Woman in
White," "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,"
"Wicked," "Beauty and the Beast,"
"Souvenir," "Chitty Chitty Bang
Bang," "Little Women," and the
revival of "42nd Street." Christina
also designs at the Metropolitan
Opera, New York City Opera, and
Manhattan School of Music, and
regionally at Seaside Music Theatre
and Arkansas Repertory Theatre. She
was also a day player on the film
ACROSS THE UNIVERSE, directed by
Julie Taymor, scheduled for release in
November 2006.

Will Hastings '96 does stand-up
comedy in the Los Angeles area, and
frequently appears at venues such as
Comedy Union or the Comedy Store’s
Belly Room. He recently placed third
in Uncle Clyde’s Comedy Contest at
The Ice House Comedy Club in
Pasadena.

Devan Hibbard '05 was stage
manager for "Proof," Feb. 8-20, and
"Pump Boys and Dinettes," May 10-27
at the Manhattan Theatre Source.
She was joined by Christopher Baine
’06 (sound design), Rachel Gilmore
'05 (electrician for "Proof," lighting
design for "Pump Boys"), and Travis
McHale '05 (lighting design for
"Proof"). Both revivals were
presented by Ground Up Productions,
a young Equity company of a group of
artists from the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Renee Horner '03 has been living in
Los Angeles, and working as assistant
to the wigmaster at Los Angeles
Opera's Wig and Makeup Department
since 2004.

Mattison M. Jameson '03 is the
production manager for the national
tour of "42nd Street." Last summer,
he was the head carpenter for the
Japanese tour of "Blast."

Emily Lagerquist '05 is assistant
lighting designer for the Kennedy
Center in Washington, D.C., as one of
the 2005-06 Kenan Fellows from
NCSA. Her work with the Kennedy
Center has taken her to the
Perseverance Theatre in Juneau,
Alaska, and the Children's Theatre
Company of Minneapolis, Minn.

Joe Levasseur '02 is the production
manager and co-lighting designer for
the John Jasperse Company in New
York, which has been touring a new
work, "Prone," with performances at
the International Dance Festival
Ireland in Dublin, the Tanzquartier
Wien in Vienna, Austria, and the
Eurokaz International Festival of New
Theatre in Zagreb, Croatia, before
returning to the U.S. for the Summer
Stages Dance festival at Concord
Academy in Concord, Mass. Fellow
alum Joey Benjamin '03 is John
Jasperse Company's scenic
technician. Joe has also been
designing the lighting for Jennifer
Monson's new show, "Flight of Mind,"
which was presented at Dance
Theater Workshop last September, the
Colony Theater in Miami this March,
and the Myrna Loy Center for the Arts
in Helena, Montana, in June. It will be
presented again in September at the
Portland Institute for Contemporary
Art's TBA Festival in Portland, Oregon.

Timothy Mackabee '03 was accepted
for graduate studies at Yale
University's School of Drama, where
he will begin pursuing his master's
degree in set design this fall. Recent
theatre credits include set designer
for Cedar Lake Ensemble's "An
Evening of Three Choreographers;
associate set designer for Second
Stage's "A Soldier's Play," the
Kennedy Center's "The Subject Was
Roses," Vineyard Theatre's "Tile of
Show," Dodger Stages' "Drumstruck,"
the Broadway production "Ring of
Fire" at Ethel Barrymore Theatre, and
the national tour of Disney's "Aida;"
and assistant set designer for the
Sante Fe Opera's "Carmen" and
"Salome."

Nicaise Makosso '03 continues to
work as assistant to the technical
director/stage manager of the Alonzo
King's LINES Ballet Company, which
had its spring season in April. He was
also production stage manager for
the American Ballet Theatre Studio
Company during their season at The
Joyce Theater in May. Nicaise has
also been doing free-lance and
translation work.

Ryan McAlister '85 is the technical
director at the Peace Center for the
Performing Arts in Greenville, S.C.

Bryan McCoy '94 appeared in the May
2006 issue of "Live Design" magazine.
Bryan is the production stage
manager for the Nathan H. Wilson
Center for the Arts at Florida
Community College at Jacksonville.

John McKernon '75 received two
nominations for Outstanding Lighting
Design, for Drama Desk Awards and
the Lucille Lortel Awards, for his work
on “The Trip to Bountiful” at
Signature Theatre.

Charlie Morrison '92 won the 2006
Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding
Lighting Design for his work on "The
Tempest" at Shakespeare Theatre
Company. He was also nominated for
his design for "Oliver!" at Olney
Theatre Center, and Shakespeare
Theatre Company's "Othello."

Jennifer Wynn O'Kelly '93 helped NCSA
honor one of its founders, former
Governor Terry Sanford, by placing his
historical quote on the wall of the
rotunda entrance to the Hanes
Student Commons. The quote,
painted to appear as if the author
had scratched it on the wall by hand,
reads "I would like to scratch on a
wall, somewhere at the North
Carolina of the Arts, neatly and in
artistic style of course: This
institution is unorthodox and
heretical."

Arvid Olson '75 is the director of
development for Faith Ministries in
Lafayette, Indiana. His current focus
is the development of a
65,000-square-foot community
center, scheduled to open Memorial
Day 2007, and the long-range
development of a 100-acre retreat.
Arvid also continues to design stage
and outdoor productions, stage
manage, and direct television
commercials.

Amy Poole Crum '97 and Sarah Poole
Rivers '90 own and operate Dream
Dinners franchises in North Carolina,
one in Raleigh, and the other recently
opened in Cary. The sisters employ
more than 40 people, chair the Dream
Dinners Franchise Advisory Board,
and last year made life easier for
more than 4,000 families by getting
them back to the dinner table.

Randall Rees '99 is a firefighter and
paramedic for the city of Des Moines,
Iowa. He also works with IATSE local
#64 on almost every show or event in
the area.

Tim R. Riley '98/'99 ’s new cabaret
troupe, The Velvet Glove, presented
“Dead Dames Don’t Say, 'No!’,”
at The Werehouse in
Winston-Salem, N.C. The troupe's
upcoming summer production, "All
the World's a Velvet Glove," will
feature pieces inspired by
Shakespearean plays.

Klyph Stanford '04 's D.C.-area
lighting design credits include "The
Mystery Of Edwin Drood" at American
University, "Two Rooms" at Theater
Alliance (directed by Shirley Serotsky
'99), and a new musical, "Lunch," for
the Capital Fringe Festival (also
directed by Shirley), which will also
be presented at The New York Musical
Theatre Festival in September. Klyph
also designed lighting for Columbia
Classical Ballet's "Cinderella" in
Columbia, S.C., and "Hair" at
Perseverance Theatre in Juneau,

Harmen Steele '88 and his wife, Erin,
live in the Atlanta, Ga. area, where
Harmen is currently running a small
web development firm. He and Erin
also help in training assistance dogs.

Barclay Stiff '00 is the production
stage manager for Manhattan
Theatre Club's “Shining City,” which
was nominated for Tony Awards for
Best Play and Best Performance by a
Leading Actor in a Play.

Kate Sutton-Johnson '02 , since
leaving the Guthrie Theater, has
returned to free-lance design in the
Minneapolis area. In addition to her
designs for Mixed Blood Theatre,
where she also served as production
manager, Kate provided commercial
designs for Industrial Artisans,
including their clients Media Loft and
Museum of Science in St. Paul.

Paul Tazewell '86 was nominated in
the Costume category of the Beverly
Hills/Hollywood NAACP Theatre
Awards, for "Caroline, or Change." He
was nominated for a Tony Award for
Best Costume Design of a Musical, for
his work on “The Color Purple” at
Broadway Theatre. Paul is also the
costume designer for "Hot Feet" at
Hilton Theatre.

Nathaniel Tomlinson '02 has started
his own lighting and sound design
company, Down Stage Designs, in
Chicago. Working with him is Oren
Ralph '99. Nate is also the lighting
designer for Thodos Dance Chicago,
where his wife Jessica Miller Tomlinson
'03 is a dancer and choreographer.

Mary Katherine Vandiver '96 was
promoted to director of marketing for
Rose Brand, where she has been
working as production manager. Prior
to joining Rose Brand, Mary Katherine
was the technical director for the
North Carolina Dance Theatre, and a
free-lance welder. She is a member
of I.A.T.S.E. Local 311.

Angelique Waller Fuller '97 is a
student in the Doctor of Veterinary
Medicine program at North Carolina
State University. Angelique's
husband Brian Fuller '90/'95 (double
bass/technical production) is the
production manager at Triad Stage in
Greensboro, N.C.

Jason Weeks '02 has joined the
marketing department of Music
Theatre International in New York

Carrie Wood '02 assisted on the
