Pam Knourek has a B.A. in drama/speech from Clarke College and an M.F.A. in costume technology from the North Carolina School of the Arts. She worked as the costume workroom manager for the Guthrie Theater for seven years, after which she took a job with the Santa Fe Opera where she was part of the management team for seven seasons as the costume workroom supervisor, costume shop coordinator and costume apprentice supervisor. She has managed costume builds for such designers as Desmond Heeley, Patricia Zipprodt, Martin Pakledinaz, Paul Tazewell, Jess Goldstein, Gabriel Berry, David C. Woolard, David Zinn, Christine Turbitt, Keith Lewis, Matt Lafabvre, Susan Hilferty, and Catherine Zuber. Ms. Knourek also worked in education as a costume design guest faculty member at Clarke College and as the costume director for the University of Minnesota at the Twin Cities campus, where she was nominated into “Who’s Who Among American Teachers 2001.” Film did not elude her; she worked in wardrobe and art departments on such films as FIELD OF DREAMS, SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY, HOUSE OF CARDS, BETSY’S WEDDING, and MEDEA’S FAMILY REUNION. Ms. Knourek has promoted such products as Lee Jeans and Bud Light with her talents as a commercial stylist. In television she worked on the PBS mini-series “The Civil War-The North Carolina Story” as the costume and wig and makeup coordinator. When working as a costume designer, she has jumped in “industrially” and worked with companies like Advance Auto Body and Canon Copier on business theatre productions. Ms. Knourek has been a member of USITT since 1988 and was the co-chair of the costume design/tech portfolio review for two of the national conventions. She was also a member of The Costume Commission Steering Committee as well as the proud faculty sponsor of the student chapter at NCSA. She was a founding member of the board for Outward Spiral Theater Company in Minneapolis, Minn., and continues to support the community as a member and former president of the board for The Adam Foundation in Winston Salem. |
