| Senior Academic and Administrative Officers as designated by the Board of Governors of The University of North Carolina, faculty with the rank of instructor or above, and non-faculty instructional and research employees exempt from the State Personnel Act, are eligible to participate in the Optional Retirement Program if they are permanently employed at least three-fourths time (at least 30 hours per week) for nine or more months per year on a recurring basis. The University of North Carolina Optional Retirement Program (ORP) is an option or alternative to the NC Teachers' and State Employees' Retirement System (TSERS).
