MATT RANSOM, Tuba

Matt Ransom enjoys a varied career as an orchestral musician, chamber musician, and educator. Mr. Ransom has served as principal tuba with the Winston-Salem Symphony since 1994. He has also performed with the North Carolina, Charlotte and Greensboro symphonies and has performed in France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and Austria. As a chamber musician, Mr. Ransom has performed thoughout the southeastern states, in the Mid-West, and the Mid-Atlantic as tubist with Carolina Brass. Founded in 1997, Carolina Brass performs a variety of programs for audiences of all ages. The group has commissioned numerous new compositions for brass quintet and has recorded two compact discs on the Mark Records, and Summit labels. In addition to teaching at the North Carolina School of the Arts, Mr. Ransom teaches tuba and euphonium at Wake Forest University, Shaw University, and St. Augustine's College. He also spends his summers teaching tuba and euphonium at the New England Music Camp in Maine. Mr. Ransom is a high school and college graduate of the North Carolina School of the Arts. He also studied at the Peabody Institute, and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. His teachers include David Lewis, David Mills, David Fedderly, and James Jenkins.
