"The Hostage"
The School of Drama at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts trains talented young men and women to be exciting, versatile and accomplished professionals. The school emphasizes classical values in its training process to meet a well-recognized demand for actors to be technically skilled and, at the same time, creatively inspired. Paloma Garcia-Lee, alumna of both the UNCSA School of Dance and High School Drama Program (class of ’08), makes her Broadway debut in Phantom of the Opera beginning Nov. 14.
Thom Miller (class of 2005) is presently appearing opposite Dan Butler ("Bulldog" Briscoe of Frasier fame) in Ira Levin's Deathtrap at Northern Stage in Vermont.
Gaye Taylor-Upchurch (class of 2005, Directing Program) is assistant director to Sam Mendez for The Bridge Project, a collaboration between the Brooklyn Academy of Music and London’s Old Vic Theatre (Kevin Spacey, artistic director). Mr. Mendez directs Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale and Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard with noted English and American actors Simon Russell Beale, Sinead Cusack, Richard Easton, Rebecca Hall, Josh Hamilton and Ethan Hawke, among others. The two plays will perform in repertory at BAM Jan. 2, 2009, through March 8, and at the Old Vic May 23 through Aug. 15.
Ashley Morris (class of 2007) will guest star as Harmony on ABC's Ugly Betty this Thursday, Oct. 23, at 8 p.m. EST.
