"The Game of Love" book & lyrics by Tom Jones, music by Jules Offenbach with arrangements & additional music by Nancy Ford

Based on the "Anatol" plays by Arthur Schnitzler

Directed by Gerald Freedman

Formal and social conventions of love are challenged in this thoughtful and romantic musical.  Anatol is a Viennese playboy who adores women.  But as he is reminded of his successful and failed amorous conquests, he discovers that love truly is a game.

Wind Ensemble

NCSA Clarinet Instructor Igor Begelman performs Victor Babin's Hillandale Waltzes with the NCSA Wind Ensemble.  Conductor Mark Norman leads the Ensemble in American composer David Maslanka's monumnetal A Child's Garden of Dreams, and Mozart's famed Serenade No. 10 in B-flat "Gran Partita."

March 3 (Monday)

Jens Lindemann and Allison Gagnon

Music for trumpet and piano, with guest Jens Lindemann.  Lindemann has played in every major concert venue in the world; from the Philharmonics of New York, Los Angeles, London, Manchester, Munich, Hamburg, Lucerne, and Berlin, to Tokyo's Suntory Hall and even the Great Wall of China.  His career has ranged from appearing internationally as an orchestral soloist, recording with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, being heralded as an official trumpeter for the N.H.L. Stanley Cup finals, to playing lead trumpet with the renowned Canadian Brass.

Jazz Ensemble

Ron Rudkin leads the NCSA Jazz Ensemble with guest trumpeter Jens Lindemann.

"Balm in Gilead" by Lanford Wilson

Directed by Laura Henry

Featuring members of Studio III

New York City's Upper Broadway neighborhood is rife with the lost and downtrodden.  Joe, a cynical drug dealer, and Darlene, a naive arrival to the city, come together at Frank's Cafe, an all-night coffee shop.  These two characters are central to Wilson's story that peeks into the lives and conversations of the drifters, junkies, and hustlers as they try to find a safe haven from their cycle of criminal life.

Emerson String Quartet

Guest residency by the Emerson String Quartet, made possible by the support from the Anne Cannon Forsyth Visiting Artist Fund.  Winner of eight Grammy Awards, including Best Classical Album, the Emerson String Quartet is one of the most renowned chamber ensembles of all time.  Formed in 1976, the group has maintained the same personnel for over thirty years, refining its performances into what The New Yorker magazine has called, "...perfect harmony; the players are in tune in all senses of the phrase."
