WINSTON-SALEM – Two alumni of the School of Drama at the North Carolina School of the Arts have received major award nominations for their work. Jennifer Ferrin, Class of 2003, top right, has been nominated for a Daytime Emmy for the second year in a row for her role as Jennifer Munson on CBS’ “As the World Turns.” This year she is nominated in the category “Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series”; last year, she was nominated in the “Outstanding Young Actress in a Drama Series” category. |

A native of Lawrenceville, Ga., Ferrin joined “As the World Turns” on July 9, 2003, just one month after graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in drama from the North Carolina School of Arts. She recently played Esther, the younger Vanessa Redgrave character in “The Locket,” a Hallmark Hall of Fame film, and guest starred on the 2002 season finale of “Dawson’s Creek.” The Daytime Emmy Awards will be broadcast on April 28 on ABC. Lisa Tharps, Class of 1997, bottom right, has received three Best Leading Female/Performance nominations for her title role in “Medea” at Theatre @ Boston Court in Pasadena, Calif.: from the LA Drama Critics Circle, the publication LA Weekly, and the Beverly Hills/Hollywood NAACP. Her theatre credits include “The Vagina Monologues,” directed by NCSA alumnus Joe Mantello; “Wit,” with Kathleen Chalfant, Karen Grassle and Judith Light; “Love’s Fire: Fresh Numbers by Seven American Playwrights” with The Acting Company, directed by Mark Lamos; “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” also directed by Mark Lamos; August Wilson’s “King Hedley II,” opposite Brian Stokes Mitchell, on Broadway; and “The Tower,” directed by Barbara Kallir. Her television credits include “Law & Order: SVU,” “Sex and the City,” and “NYPD Blue.” She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in drama from NCSA in 1997. The LA Drama Critics Circle Awards will be announced on March 13. The LA Weekly Theatre Awards will be announced on April 10. The Beverly Hills/Hollywood NAACP Awards are being announced today. Also nominated from NCSA are alumni Paul Tazewell, for “Caroline, or Change” in the Costume category, and Tony Fanning, for “A Naked Girl on the Appian Way,” in the Set Design category.
