NCSA SCHOOL OF MUSIC TO HOST
FORMER CHANCELLOR ROBERT WARD
FOR A SCRE
ENING OF HIS FILMED OPERA, ROMAN FEVER
At 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3

WINSTON-SALEM – The North Carolina School of the Arts will host former Chancellor Robert Ward for a screening of his filmed opera, Roman Fever, at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, in the Proscenium Thrust Theatre of Performance Place on the NCSA campus, 1533 South Main St.

The film, which runs one hour, will be followed by a discussion of the challenges and benefits of filming opera.

There is no charge for admission, which is open to the public.

Ward, who recently celebrated his 90th birthday, is a Pulitzer Prize-winning composer best-known for his operas.

This production of Roman Fever, which features School of Music faculty member Marilyn Taylor, is taken from the story by Edith Wharton. It is set in a terrace restaurant overlooking the Forum where two widows and their daughters have met by chance. During the course of the opera, the full story of the widows’ meeting in the same place 20 years earlier is revealed.

The composition and voice departments of the NCSA School of Music are hosting former Chancellor Ward’s visit and the screening of Roman Fever.
