A lot can happen in one night. With nowhere to go and a raging snowstorm outside, a bus drops off its travelers at a diner in the middle of Kansas, forcing them to spend the evening together. From a nightclub singer and a cowboy, to a waitress and bus driver, Inge creates wonderful characters that come to life and will keep you guessing. The ability to find the extraordinary in the ordinary and to give depth and authenticity to his characters is one of the trademarks of William Inge’s work. After his death in 1973, he left behind a legacy that was rooted in the American Midwest culture. His plays were only a reflection of the struggles and trials of everyday life. Directing is NCSA’s School of Drama faculty member Caroline Kava. She is a graduate of The Neighborhood Playhouse, where she studied with Sanford Meisner and is well-known in theatre circles and is recognizable by film and TV audiences alike. Her New York theatre credits include Threepenny Opera directed by Richard Foreman and Cloud 9 directed by Tommy Tune. Kava has directed off-Broadway, at the Chautauqua Institute, Purchase College and the University of Illinois. The North Carolina School of the Arts was the first state-supported, residential performing arts school in the nation. Today, it is a leading conservatory of international renown, offering professional training for careers in the performing, visual, and moving image arts.
