NORTH CAROLINA SCHOOL OF THE ARTS TO HOST 2008 N.C. THESPIAN FESTIVAL

WINSTON-SALEM – High school drama students from across North Carolina will converge on Winston-Salem this weekend when the North Carolina School of the Arts hosts the 2008 North Carolina Thespian Festival, the annual conference of the N.C. Thespian Society. More than 300 people – about 250 students and 50 directors, teachers and chaperones representing 23 different troupes – are expected to attend the festival, which will be held Friday and Saturday, March 28 and 29, on the NCSA campus, 1533 S. Main St., Winston-Salem. Faculty members from the NCSA Schools of Drama, Design and Production, and Filmmaking will be among the workshop presenters from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 29. Workshops will include, among many others: · “Basic Combat,” or “how to hit your fellow actor eight shows a week and not hurt him or her.” · “Blood and Guts,” or “creating realistic wounds and prosthetics for stage and screen.” · “Theatre Games and Improvisation” · “Creating Character with the Mask” · “AVID Editing System Introduction” · “How to Watch a Movie” · “Sound in the Theatrical Space” The thespians also will present a play showcase and will participate in adjudicated individual events (monologues, duet acting, solo musical, etc.) during the conference. The society will conclude the festival with an awards event where best play and best design, among others, will be announced.
