WINSTON-SALEM – Just four years after graduating from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA), Anna Camp has found herself in one of Broadway’s hottest shows – with none other than “Harry Potter.” Camp has joined the cast of the Broadway revival of Equus, Peter Shaffer’s Tony Award-winning play, starring Daniel Radcliffe (Alan Strang) and Richard Griffiths (Dr. Martin Dysart). She is playing Jill Mason, the girl who becomes romantically involved with Radcliffe’s character. The limited engagement begins previews today, Sept. 5, prior to an official opening Sept. 25 at the Broadhurst Theatre. The production will run through Feb. 8, 2009. Radcliffe (Harry Potter in the HARRY POTTER series) and Griffiths (Vernon Dursley in the HARRY POTTER series and Tony Award-winner for The History Boys) are reprising the roles they played in the Equus revival in London, where it became one of the biggest hits ever seen in the West End. Camp’s fellow UNCSA alumnus Paul David Story has also joined the Equus cast – as standby for Daniel Radcliffe in the lead role. Story, from Iowa City, Iowa, graduated from UNCSA (formerly the North Carolina School of the Arts) in 2005. He studied acting in the School of Drama. Story has been seen on Broadway in The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial, as well as in films VARTAN LLP and SAINT NICK, and TV’s “Law and Order: SVU.” Camp, who is from Rock Hill, S.C., graduated college (2004) and high school (2000) from UNCSA (formerly the North Carolina School of the Arts). She studied acting in the School of Drama. Camp was most recently seen on Broadway in The Country Girl, directed by Mike Nichols, with Morgan Freeman and Frances McDormand. Off-Broadway, she starred in Second Stage’s production of The Scene, for which she received a Lucille Lortel nomination; columbinus, at New York Theatre Workshop; Flesh and the Desert at the Summer Play Festival; and God Hates the Irish at Rattlestick Theatre. Her TV appearances include “The Cashmere Mafia” and REINVENTING THE WHEELERS. Camp also appeared in PRETTY BIRD, a film directed by fellow UNCSA graduate Paul Schneider (School of Filmmaking) and written by Schneider and fellow film grad Zene Baker. The film was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival. Meanwhile, also on Broadway, UNCSA alumna Missi Pyle (School of Drama Class of 1995) will be making her Broadway debut on Sept. 9 in Boeing-Boeing, the 2008 Tony Award-winning Best Play revival, at the Longacre Theatre. She is joining Christine Baranski, Gina Gershon and Kathryn Hahn in the cast. And Jennifer Ferrin (School of Drama Class of 2003) continues to win accolades in “The 39 Steps” at the Cort Theatre. ###
