NCSA DRAMA ALUMNA NOMINATED FOR GOLDEN GLOBE AWARD
Mary-Louise Parker, For HBO’s ANGELS IN AMERICA


WINSTON-SALEM – Mary-Louise Parker, an alumna of the School of Drama at the North Carolina School of the Arts, has been nominated for a Golden Globe Award.

She was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for her role as Harper Pitt in the HBO film ANGELS IN AMERICA, which also was nominated for a Golden Globe.

Parker co-stars with Al Pacino, Meryl Streep and Emma Thompson in the HBO movie version of Tony Kushner’s Pulitzer Prize-winning, two-part play, “Angels in America.”

Parker, who graduated with a College Arts Diploma in 1986, is a native of South Carolina who also lived in Texas. She was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2002 for her role as Amy Gardner on NBC’s “The West Wing.” In 2001, she won a Best Actress Tony Award for her role as Catherine in “Proof,” for which she also received the Lucille Lortel and Drama Desk awards.

Also on Broadway, she was nominated for a Tony for her role as Rita in “Prelude to a Kiss.” Off-Broadway, she won an Obie Award and was nominated for an Outer Critics Circle Award for “How I Learned to Drive.”

Her feature film credits include THE RED DRAGON, THE PORTRAIT OF A LADY, THE CLIENT, MR. WONDERFUL, GRAND CANYON and FRIED GREEN TOMATOES, among others.

The Golden Globes, presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, will be telecast live on Jan. 25, 2004.
