WINSTON-SALEM – North Carolina School of the Arts alumna Mary-Louise Parker has been nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy. She’s up for her role in the Showtime series “Weeds,” in which she plays Nancy Botwin, a young suburban housewife who begins selling marijuana to support her sons when her husband dies suddenly. |

Parker is up against four of the “Desperate Housewives” from ABC: Marcia Cross, Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman and Eva Longoria. Parker won a Golden Globe and an Emmy Award in 2004 for her performance in HBO’s “Angels in America.” A native of South Carolina who also lived in Texas, Parker graduated from NCSA with a College Arts Diploma in 1986. She studied acting in the School of Drama. Her feature film credits include THE RED DRAGON, THE PORTRAIT OF A LADY, THE CLIENT, MR. WONDERFUL, GRAND CANYON and FRIED GREEN TOMATOES, among others. Her other awards include a Best Actress Tony Award for her role as Catherine in “Proof” in 2001. In addition, THE PRODUCERS – which opens in theatres everywhere Dec. 25 – is up for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. NCSA School of Drama alumnus Gary Beach reprises his Broadway role as Roger De Bris in the film.
