Built at a cost of $2.7 million, the 15,500-square-foot Welcome Center is part of the $42.5 million NCSA received through the higher education bonds approved by North Carolina citizens in 2000. Designed by Duda/Paine Architects of Durham, N.C., and constructed by Wishon & Carter Builders Inc. of Yadkinville, N.C., the Welcome Center was completed in November 2004. Located near NCSA’s main entrance at 1533 S. Main St., Winston-Salem, the Welcome Center serves as the first stop for many visitors to campus. Prospective students can obtain School information there, as well as take campus tours that originate at the center (see www.ncarts.edu/ncsaprod/admissions/campustours.asp). The Welcome Center houses the offices of Admissions, Registrar, Student Accounts, and Student Financial Aid, serving as a “one-stop shop” for students who need to check their account balances, receive financial aid counseling, or request transcripts, for example. The center also includes several conference rooms, a presentation room, and an encounter space. An exhibit titled “A Day in the Life of the North Carolina School of the Arts,” by Winston-Salem photographer Christine Rucker, is currently on display at the center.
