Thomas S. Kenan Institute for the Arts Announces Internet 2 Performing Arts Forum
at the North Carolina School of the Arts


WINSTON-SALEM -- The North Carolina School of the Arts School of Music has extended its pilot project to create an Internet 2 Performing Arts Forum in 2005-2006. This project involves the North Carolina School of the Arts students, faculty and community in one of the most innovative trends in the performing arts. The School of Music will engage in a series of Internet 2 sessions to perform, collaborate, discuss and exchange ideas. This year’s sessions will include the following collaborations:

February 6, 2006       Brahms String Quartet in A Minor Opus 51, no. 2
2:00-3:30 pm EST
This session will feature the Mendelssohn String Quartet and noted Brahms scholar Walter Frisch from Columbia University. Interpretive, historical and analytical approaches to the Brahms String Quartet in A Minor will be the topic of this session.

March 9, 2006            Educational Outreach for Musicians
12:30-2:00 pm EST
This session will feature the A. J. Fletcher Opera Institute at the North Carolina School of the Arts and Susan Stauter, Artistic Director for Secondary Schools for the San Francisco School System.  Producing and developing successful Arts outreach programs will be the topic of this sessions.

 April 11, 2006                        Wellness Practices for Musicians
1:35-3:35 pm EDT
This session will feature Ralph A Manchester, MD, FACP, Director of University Health Services and Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Rochester and Gerald Klickstein, Guitar faculty at the North Carolina School of the Arts.  Approaches to maintaining a healthy lifestyle in the competitive world of the professional musician will be the topic of this session.

April 26, 2006                        The Fugues of the Well-Tempered Clavier by J. S. Bach
12:00-1:30 pm EDT
This session will feature Dr. David Korevaar from the University of Colorado and Dr. Timothy Smith from the University of Northern Arizona.  The session will center on Dr. Smith's multimedia website in developing interpretive, historical and analytical approaches to performing the Fugues of the Well-Tempered Clavier by J.S. Bach.

Internet 2 is a new high-speed Internet system allowing high quality real-time audio-visual interaction between people at any Internet 2 location in the world.

The Internet 2 Performing Arts Forum is a project of the Thomas S. Kenan Institute for the Arts, a privately funded program of the North Carolina School of the Arts.
