 NORTH CAROLINA SCHOOL OF THE ARTS TO HOST
2006 N.C. THESPIAN FESTIVAL


WINSTON-SALEM – High school students from across North Carolina will converge on Winston-Salem this weekend when the North Carolina School of the Arts hosts the annual conference of the North Carolina Thespian Society.

Approximately 230 students and their teachers from 17 different high schools are expected to attend the festival, which will be held Friday and Saturday, March 31 and April 1, on the NCSA campus, 1533 S. Main St., Winston-Salem.
 

Faculty members from the NCSA School of Drama and the NCSA School of Design and Production will be among those giving workshops between 1 and 4:30 p.m. Saturday (April 1).  Workshops will include, among others:

·        “Creating a Character with the Mask” with School of Drama Assistant Dean Bob Francesconi.

·         “Theatre Games and Improvisation” with School of Drama faculty member Robert Moyer.

·        “Transforming a Thrift Shop Find into a Period Costume” with School of Design and Production Assistant Dean Christine Turbitt.

·        “Auditioning for a Musical” with School of Drama faculty member Greg Walter.

·        “Organizing a Production Book” with School of Design and Production Assistant Dean John Toia.

·        “Broadway Jazz” with School of Drama faculty member Mollie Murray.

·        “What Do Arts Managers Do?” with School of Design and Production faculty member Robert Wildman.

·        “Finding the Character’s Voice” with School of Drama faculty member Ben Furey.

·        “New Materials for Scenic Construction” with School of Design and Production faculty member Doug Brown.

·        “Tips for Putting a Good Audition Monologue Together” with School of Drama Assistant Dean Robert Beseda.

·        “Preparing a Role” with School of Drama faculty member Matthew Bulluck.

·        “Acting for Singers,” with School of Drama faculty member Jeff Lewis.

·        “Vectorworks (a computer-aided design program)” with School of Design and Production faculty member Doug Brown.

Thespian Society members also will present showcases and will participate in adjudicated individual events (monologues, duet acting, solo musical, etc.) during the conference.
