NEW POLICY - ADDITIONAL CHARGES FOR MISSING THE BUS

Free transportation to shopping centers and entertainment venues is carefully planned to coordinate with student schedules. Buses must maintain a regular and dependable schedule of departure times so that students can plan their free time, and so that transportation staff can coordinate various other needs of the campus. It is imperative that students adhere to the posted departure times. A student who fails to catch the bus back to campus is responsible for securing and paying for his/her transportation to return to campus.

In the unfortunate event that a student misses the bus back to campus, and has no money to pay for a cab, a school official can be dispatched to get the student. The student should access this service through the appropriate Residence Life staff member by calling either the Connector Desk (high school) or their Resident Assistant (college). The service can also be accessed by calling the NCSA Police non-emergency number. This option should be employed in only rare circumstances to ensure the safe transportation of students. At no time should a student hitchhike or accept a ride from a stranger.

No one should make it a habit to miss the bus, or to depend on a staff member to come and pick them up if they do. Students are allowed one “free pass.” If a student misses the bus a second time and must call for transportation back to campus, the student will be charged $15, to be paid to the transportation office no later than three business days following the incident. A student who misses the bus and must call for transportation back to campus a third time will be charged $30, to be paid to the transportation office no later than three business days following the incident. A student who misses the bus and calls for transportation back to campus a fourth time will not be allowed further use of NCSA Transportation Services for the remainder of the academic year. A student who fails to pay transportation charges on time will not be allowed to utilize Transportation Services until the charges are paid.
