Elaine Doerschuk Pruitt
Ms. Pruitt first came to NCSA in 1975 as a member of the General Studies faculty. She taught history, social studies and interdisciplinary courses on both high school and college levels before being asked to serve as the Interim Dean of General Studies in 2003. In 2004 she was appointed to the position of Interim Associate Vice Chancellor for Undergraduate Academic and Graduate Programs. Her primary goal in all of these roles has been to provide NCSA students with a well-rounded education that will prepare them to fully realize their artistic dreams and ambitions.
Ms. Pruitt, whose original major was music (cello), earned B.A. and M.A. degrees in history at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Before teaching at NCSA, she was a member of the history faculty at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
While a member of the NCSA faculty, she was awarded three fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities in 18th century British culture, ethnomusicology and the study of the American South. In 1996 she was awarded the NCSA Excellence in Teaching Award. She has presented papers at a number of conferences and published several articles.
